Why enemies to lovers is the best romance trope

*Disclaimer: This is just an opinion

We love romantic movies and books, but not every romantic story follows the same trope. For those who do not know, a trope is an element in a narrative that repeats itself and follows a specific sequence of events throughout the story. There are different tropes such as friends to lovers, sports romance, second chance love, love triangle, and right person wrong time, among others, but the best romance trope of all time is enemies to lovers, and in this article, I am going to explain why.

Enemies to lovers defines itself, it is when the two main characters start as enemies and throughout the story, they end up in a romantic relationship. One of the many reasons I love the enemies-to-lovers trope is because there is character development individually and as a couple, they find out things about themselves and about their partner that leads them to grow as a character. This trope is also known for its high-level tension between the main characters, it is the type of tension that gets your heart racing because those are the scenes where we can see glimpses of the true love that exists in the story. Also, enemies to lovers adds the component of heightened emotions that leads to more passionate and adrenaline-packed scenes and interactions. The beauty of this trope is that it shows that people’s flaws we hate can be the ones we end up loving about them.

Enemies to lovers is the best romance trope because it shows that hating someone is not permanent, there is always something that will not annoy us about them. It is amazing because hating someone is not the end, loving someone you used to hate is just a way of showing the feelings that one did not want to lose by hating the person you truly love. As my grandmother says, from love to hate there is only one step.
