Should we worry?

“Don’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges.

Life is too short to be unhappy.”

― Roy T. Bennett

The current world is filled with circumstances that imply carrying a lot of stress. Everyone has to deal with many burdens constantly. There is a lot to worry about these days like: getting good grades, looking pretty, dressing well, or not getting hurt.  Sometimes worrying can be helpful to avoid other problems and to make you more cautious. However, as worries mostly come from negative things, they generally become pressure. A kind of pressure that can be present daily and difficult to control. Carrying with these feelings is hard and might result in bigger problems like anxiety or unhappiness.

Considering all this, is worrying worth it?

Currently, people are concerned about countless things. Some dwell on the past, others on the future, and others in the present. Regardless, most of us, if not all, tend to be worried all the time. I don't think it is always bad to feel this way. In some cases, worrying can make you more cautious or take you to making better decisions. If you are concerned about getting sick or getting injured you will most likely become cautious and reduce your chance of getting hurt. Another scenario can be when you have to make a big decision, worrying about choosing incorrectly might lead to a better analysis of the situation and, as a result, a better choice.

On the other hand, worrying has many more downsides than positive things. Worrying implies, most of the time, feeling stressed out, anxious, and having negative thoughts, and all this put together frequently usually leads to a great variety of problems. For instance, some results of being concerned regularly are problems like insomnia, headaches, and difficulty concentrating. You can feel tired both physically and mentally. Additionally, it can lead to missing out on many opportunities and experiences in life. This happens if someone is worrying a lot about making a bad decision or a mistake. All this causes problems in your daily life that might affect your work or even academic performance, your relationships with others, and, in some cases, even your relationship with yourself.

In the end, if we think about it, I believe it is much better to stop worrying about everything. I could tell you to just live in the moment and to be happy with whatever happens. If it is a situation of the past that is bothering you, you should just let it go, if it is in the present you should just let it happen, and if it is the future the solution is to trust yourself and not get anxious before time. I, however, know saying it is a thousand times easier than actually doing it. This is why you could say that if there's a problem you can solve, try to do it, if you can't solve it, slowly accept it or make an effort to ignore it. As hard and ridiculous as this might sound I think trying won't hurt. There's a lot more to win if you make it and a lot less to lose. Maybe if you reduce your worries even a little and try to focus only on the things that are helpful to you instead, you might be able to find more happiness and satisfaction in your life.
