How to: Mental Health
We all wish to have good mental health, don't we? But how can we achieve that? Everyone keeps talking about the importance of mental health, especially in environments like schools where the stress level is huge. However, it is a hard task because maintaining a good mental balance is not something that can be taught or learned like a normal school subject. In addition, much of the stress that affects our mental state comes from outside factors that we can not control, so it becomes even harder to avoid. Even so, difficult never meant impossible. For that reason, here are some tips to take better care of your own mental health.
The first key point to well mental being relies on physical health. Having a balanced diet and exercising or practicing a sport of your preference can reduce anxiety and help you feel at ease. Aside from exercising you can also take time out of your week to do any activity of your interest, a hobby. It can be anything. Writing, painting, reading, watching movies or even going for a walk. As long as it is enjoyable for you, it is a great alternative to relax and clear your mind from all the overwhelming thoughts you might be having.
The second tip is to keep in mind that you are not alone. Dealing with everything by yourself is way too pressuring. There are tons of people around who can listen to you, so do not hesitate to ask for help. Share your concerns with friends and family, with people that you trust. They might not be able to solve all your problems, that's true; nevertheless, in my opinion it is the best way to vent your feelings and receive helpful advice. Keeping it all to yourself is in no way a good alternative, suppressing everything you feel wont make the situation any better, instead it just hurts you more and more. It is like carrying a bag full of books. If you let someone else share the weight with you, the job of carrying it will become a lot easier.
The last tip is to not be afraid of seeking professional help. For ages there have been people who criticize those who struggle with mental health, but covering it only affects you. If your burdens are getting out of hand and none of the other tips seem to be working for you try to talk to a professional. They will probably know what to do and what is the best path to follow.
To sum up, there are many things you can do to improve your mental health. Daily life activities can greatly reduce your stress. Remember that your well-being should always be in your list of priorities, so take time to take care of yourself.
